God will cling to and favor those who have a clean heart/mind/soul.

1 Samuel 16:7

Man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart

Here in this scripture mentioned above God is calling us to fully examine ourselves from the inside out. It is easy to put on masks and hide things we don’t want to deal with. The challenging part is dealing with those things we tend to suppress. We tend to clean up what others can see so that we are presentable. When in reality our inner being is a mess. This actually hinders us from reaching our full potential. Just because we choose to ignore things that we suppress for a time in order to look presentable does not mean they are gone. Some thing or some one will trigger them and they will come up and show an ugly side of us that we never intended to show. That is what God is concerned with He wants us to deal with the issues that bother us and are unlike Him.

God is particularly concerned with your heart because it is where you hide your most personal thoughts. It’s your secret place. Here you can put A LOT. You will begin to act out what you place in your heart.

Its time to clean it up! If God is to reside within our hearts it should be clean, pure, inviting, open, willing, and ready to receive what it is He has for us. It is our duty to do our best to keep the heart clean for God. Of course we will need His help because we can’t do it on our own. Although the big decision is ours to first let go of those yucky things.

Ask yourself these questions.

Is my heart prepared for the King?

Is any part of my heart off limits?

What things have I hidden in  my heart?
